The Wilderness Journey

Not by thy power and thy will but my spirit saith the Lord
It was not my will to leave Egypt
For I loved the lashes of the taskmasters
When I cried in anguish and tore my head in pain
The Lord renewed his covenant with Israel
The faith and the obedience of Jesus was precious in his sight
He savored the sweet sacrifice of the cross and delivered Israel
With a strong hand and an outstretched arm
He delivered Israel from the wrath of the pharaoh
But the heat of the wilderness and the desert tribes
Did war with us, thy sweet manna was now bitter
Thy loving hand was like unto a taskmaster's whip
We chided with you O Lord and with thy servants
Thy wrath against us is justified
And when thou judgest thou art surely justified
But we only see a well pleased smile of the father
Because he rejoices in the sacrifice of Christ my savior
And has poured forth his wrath on the lamb without any blemish
We bless you God for you are not a man.
