The soul

Stricken with the disease of self-holiness
We have resisted the goodwill of the almighty
A clenched fist always against thy wonderful face
And exalt the name of the beastly fallen man

We considered you the enemy of mankind
And Lucifer the fallen Hero
Our flesh was one with the will of the devil
We were deceived that our minds were free

You opened the heavens to us
But we strove to defeat your eternal love
Always embracing the ways of the carnal flesh
And crucifying the love poured forth from the heavens

Why didst thou choose us, we don't know
Why didst thou die for us we cannot comprehend
Why do you love your weak enemies sweet king
Tis a mystery the cherubs long to comprehend

O love eternal in vain can we resist you
O joy divine thou wast mine from the beginning of the Lord devine
My heart cannot contain thy love eternal God
My lips shall praise thee for eternity

Thou put faith in my heart
And in my inward parts thou has made me to know thy son
It was not I who chose thee lovely lord
It was thy sweet amazing grace

Holy, holy, holy are you Lord God
Who dwells in unapproachable light
Why didst thou make the dwelling of the son of man thine own
My mind cannot comprehend this mystery

My organs try in vain to contain thy love
Thou redeemed me from the lust of the intellect
And brought me to a lovely land
Overflowing with the river of God

Why did you not erase sinful man?
Why didst thou open heaven to filth?
Why did thou send thy son into man?
It is grace beyond comprehension let no man try and understand

Why didst thou not send us to hell sweet savior
And create a godly race
We hid ourselves from thy divine presence O Light divine
But thou sought us out to be thine own

In vain we hid ourselves from thy sight
But thou has tested our lusts with fire
And has shamed us only to exalt us
We are thine and thine for evermore

Behold the Lord cometh to redeem his own
Let the world tremble under his own
To justly redeem his treasure
And adorn it forevermore.
